Easy Grilled Chicken Strips

Grilled chicken strips are a delicious and versatile dinner option that can be enjoyed on their own or used in a variety of dishes. These tender strips of chicken are perfect for summer cookouts, meal prepping, or adding to salads, wraps, and stir-fries but in our house they are a frequent dinner request by the kids. In this article, we will explore how to prepare and enjoy grilled chicken strips, as well as tips for achieving perfectly cooked and flavorful results every time.

Weber Kettle Prep

I usually do this recipe on my Weber Kettle, the seasoning, coupled with the charcoal flavor, it is just an awesome combination. I filled a chimney full of charcoal and got the going until they started to ash over. Once that was done, I dumped the chimney into the Kettle. A full chimney gives me enough coverage for about 1/2 my Kettle which is plenty, I just rotate twice through all the strips to get them grilled. I grill these strips with the lid off, so when prepping the grill, no need to be checking ambient temperature. If you are using a gas grill, just crank it up and initially look for a temperature of 400°.

Grilled Chicken Breast Strips Seasoning

If you have ever had Tyson grilled chicken strips and thought those were good, these will blow those out of the water. Full of spice and that smokey charred flavor, you are going to love this recipe. As I enjoy doing, this is a simple set of ingredients that give you a mouth watering dish.

  • salt
  • pepper
  • paprika
  • chili powder
  • brown sugar
  • garlic powder

Measurements are in the recipe card but once you have these measured out, go ahead and mix them in a bowl and then set side. When putting the seasoning in a bowl, make sure its big enough to as we are going to coat the strips by rolling them in the seasoning. Once the seasoning is ready we can prep the rest of the chicken tenders recipe.

Chicken Breast Prep

I use chicken breasts for this recipe but if you wanted to use chicken tenderloins you can do that as well. Making some grilled chicken tenderloins certainly works, as it saves you some time cutting. I prefer to not contend with the chicken tendons, so I usually go with chicken breasts.

If you are making some grilled chicken tenders with the tenderloins, you may just need to slice them in half. If you are using the chicken breasts, start off by slicing them in half, that way they are not nearly as thick.

Once sliced in half, you are start cutting them length wise. I cut them about 1/2″ to 3/4″ thick. Once you have the slices done, we can start the seasoning. A great part about this recipe, it can be put together, reality is in minutes, as we are not using any kind of chicken marinade. Not does skipping a marinade save us some time we are also not going to use or really need any kind of binder, like an olive oil, for the seasoning. The chicken breasts provide enough moisture that the seasoning will bind without any issues.

Grilling Chicken Breast Strips

Strips are seasoned, the grill is ready so let’s make some awesome grilled chicken strips. Simply lay them out on the grate, again we will not cover the grill since its a pretty quick cook. After a couple of minutes turn them. Go by looks on this as you may have some hotter spots that will have some strips finishing sooner. I like getting a little bit of char on them before I turn them over. After about 10 minutes of turning they should all be done. If you want to give a quick spot check on internal temperature you can, you are looking for the standard poultry safe temperature of 165°.

Once you finish on the grill, they are pretty much ready to go. You can let them rest/cool down for a few minutes but you really don’t need to let these rest, as much, as cool down enough to handle them. The kids will certainly be waiting for the chicken tenders on the grill to be done and ready to eat.

How To Enjoy Grilled Chicken Strips

You can enjoy these chicken strips a variety of ways. For a quick dinner, I will grill these up and just serve them as is. The kids will dip them in some BBQ sauce or in Kinder’s Dipping Sauce, I picked up at Costco My wife will cut them a little smaller and add them to a salad, they make for a great addition to a Southwest Salad. Add a squirt of lemon juice to the ground chili pepper, these strips can also make for some great fajitas. When it comes to meal plans, this is a great and easy way to prep in advance.

Easy Grilled Chicken Strips

Grilled Chicken Strips

Impress your family and friends with these savory and satisfying recipes for homemade grilled chicken strips that are perfect for any occasion.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 8 minutes
Additional Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 23 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs chicken breasts
  • 4 tbsp light brown sugar
  • 4 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 tsp paprika
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 tsp chili powder

Instructions

  1. Start by taking the dry ingredients, mixing in a bowl and setting aside. Make sure the bowl is large enough to dip the strips in.
  2. Before starting on the chicken, start by getting the charcoal ready. Light a full chimney, which should get you about 1/2 a kettle for grilling. If using a gas grill, get it up and running for about 400°. We are going to grill with the lids off, so don't need an exact temperature on the grill.
  3. Slice the breasts in half, so they are a little thinner and will grill faster.
  4. Then slice them into strips, you want pieces about 1/2"-3/4"
  5. After the chicken is sliced, coat the strips with the seasoning, ensure full coverage on all sides
  6. Finish prepping the grill, if needed and then place the strips on.
  7. Rotate the strips every 2-3 minutes, Monitor based on looks, as you may have some hotter spots on the grill. I highly suggest getting some char on the chicken before removing.
  8. After about 8-10 minutes on the grill, you can remove. If you need to check IT, you want 165° on the strips
  9. Remove, let rest/cool down for about 5 minutes and serve
